Let There Be Light

The Bakers Hill community has thanked the Coalition Government for making their community safer, with the completion of the town’s Town Safety Lighting project.
The Bakers Hill RSL Sub Branch successfully applied for funding under the Coalition Government’s National Community Crime Prevention Programme. The organisation received $3,225 for the installation of sensor lighting at major community facilities within the townsite including the community hall, golf club, fire shed (FESA Volunteers), town church, primary school, local public toilets and war memorial.
The Federal Member for Pearce, the Hon Judi Moylan MP, said she pleased that the installation of the Town Safety Lighting project had been completed.
“The Australian community made it very clear to the previous Government that crime and the fear of crime were a real concern, which is why the National Community Crime Prevention Programme small grants initiative was introduced,” Mrs Moylan said.
The programme gave local communities the opportunity to undertake specific crime prevention and community safety projects.
“The objective of the NCCP was to provide funding to grass roots organisations for projects designed to reduce and prevent crime and the fear of crime,” Mrs Moylan explained.
“The grants attracted very strong interest from across Australia, demonstrating that communities were in the best position to recognise local problems and find local relevant solutions.”
“It is my hope that the Labor Government can see the merit in initiatives such as the NCCPP and continues to fund such programmes.”
